Well, a few days ago, after making pancakes for Cha Cha one morning, we headed out to the grocery store.
Cha Cha (our almost 2 year old granddaughter) amazes me how smart and observant she is. She knows her primary colors and says “Hi” to many people. She is drawn to certain people.
We were in the checkout lane, when an elderly lady with white hair and glasses pushes her buggy past us. I hear Cha Cha say: “Granny” As I look up, YES, this lady favors my Granny Audrey Woods. (Granny went to Heaven nearly 2 weeks ago.)
I say “Yes, baby. She looks like Granny.” Then Cha Cha says “Granny has a boo-boo”.
In the two days prior to Granny’s passing, Cha Cha and her Mom went to Granny’s house. Those two days, we tried to shield Cha from seeing Granny, but at one point, she saw her. I said to Cha: “Baby, Granny has a boo-boo.”
So, when Cha Cha said “Granny has a boo-boo.” -tears starting rolling down my face. I was a crying mess.
We got to the car and Cha Cha said it again and I said “Baby, Granny doesn’t have a boo-boo anymore. She’s all better now. She’s with Jesus.”
Granny impacted the life of so many, even her Great-Great Granddaughter.
I finally gained composure and begin to think of how this little angel; Charlotte (Cha Cha) is now affecting my life. I believe she is helping heal our hearts.
I want to be the kind of grandparents to Cha Cha that Virgil and Audrey were to me. They helped raise me. They always loved me.
They chose love over judgment.
They chose care over condemnation.
They probably disapproved of my decisions many times, but they never stopped loving and believing in me.
Lord, help me to show that kind of love.
